Mike Bynon- Club Director

Mike Bynon is a native of Burnt Hills, NY. Upon graduating from Burnt Hills, where he was a multiple time league MVP and State Champion, Mike attended Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. At Carthage, Mike spent four years as the starting libero and helped lead Carthage to three Final Fours including the National Championship game his senior year. Mike graduated from Carthage as an AVCA All-American and is still the all-time leader in digs. Mike has a major in Exercise and Sports Science with minors in Education and Health.

After graduation, Bynon was an assistant at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts for the 2013 & 2014 seasons, helping the Ephs post a 55-10 mark and advance to back-to-back NCAA Division III Tournament berths including an Elite 8 appearance in 2014. Mike helped coach multiple AVCA All-Americans during his time in Williamstown. 

From 2015-2020 Bynon was the head coach at the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. He coached the Bears to a 90-58 record in five seasons, including a winning mark in each campaign and a strong presence in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), with postseason tournament berths in each season.

In addition to running Lakeside, Mike is also the PE Teacher at the Oak Hill School in Glenville, NY.

Gary Bynon- Club Founder and Director

Gary Bynon has been the Head Girls Volleyball Coach and a Physical Education teacher at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School near Saratoga, New York for 31 years. Coach Bynon also runs the Lakeside Volleyball Club and Spike Mountain Volleyball Camp, one of the top summer camps in the Northeast.

Coach Bynon's teams have been in 20 straight New York Final Fours participating in 15 state finals and winning 7 of them since 1999. The Spartans have also captured a Section 2 record 17 straight years and 24 overall titles. The Spartans just won their 33rd consecutive Suburban Council Divisional Championship. His teams also own a 390 straight league wins streak from October 1990-October 2015. Coach Bynon is the President of the New York State Volleyball Coaches Association and was recently named the recipient of the National Federation of High Schools Sectional Coach of the Year which covers 8 Northeastern States.

Lindsay Bynon- Youth Director

Coach Lindsay Bynon is the current Head Coach at Skidmore College. In addition to her coaching duties at Skidmore, she is the co-director and a coach of Spike Mountain Volleyball Camps since 2014. She also holds the title Youth Program Director for the Lakeside Volleyball Club in Burnt Hills.

Lindsay played volleyball collegiately at the College of Saint Rose and Nazareth College. A graduate of Nazareth, she appeared in 65 matches over two years for the Golden Flyers as a defensive specialist and libero. Bynon won two New York State Championships as a player for Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School.

In addition to her work as a coach, Bynon has served as the director of social media for the New York Volleyball Coaches Association since 2017. She earned a degree in Inclusive Early Childhood/Childhood Education as well as Psychology from Nazareth and previously worked in the Argyle Central School District as a special education teacher. She received her Master's in Athletic Leadership from Castleton.
