We are on the brink of the men’s college season begining so here is a preview of some former Lakeside players!

After Herron red-shirted his freshman season at Ohio State, in which the team won the National Championship, he’s ready for action. The Buckeyes are ranked 8th in the AVCA coaches poll and start their season on January 6th when they attend the UC Santa Barbara Invitational.

Pelletier looks to help Springfield this season after a National Championship runner-up season, individually he totaled 261 kills for a .271 attack percentage on the year. The team starts the 2012 season at the Outrigger Invitational where they will play Hawaii, UCLA and Lewis. They are the first ever DIII program to compete in the field. Good luck!

The 2011 Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year, who was also among the national leaders for digs with 4.19 digs per game, played last season with the Sage men’s team, and is now at Rivera College.

As the starting libero in 32 of 34 matches last season, the team leader in digs and 22nd overall in the NCAA DIII with a 2.41 per-set average, Bynon starts the 2012 season on January 26th in their first tournament at Nazareth College, where former Lakeside players Sam Guba and Alex Houtalen play. Game coverage will be available at the Nazareth site but the question to ask yourself is who to cheer for??

The senior looks to help his team in him final season with the Golder Flyers. Entering the season he has 182 digs.

Coming off the 2011 season where Nazareth defeated Springfield to win the DIII National Championship for its first ever national title, Guba and Houghtalen look to help the team to another successful season starting with their home tournament on January 27th when they will face Carthage amoung other teams.

With IPFW picked as 6th in he 2012 preseason MIVA coaches poll, Armstrong will compete at a high level in his freshmas season season. Getting a win for their first match this season beating Puerto Rico 3-2, IPFW looks to continue their success throughout the season facing tough competition.

After leading the team in digs with 285 and a .969 reception percentage, Slocum was selected for the 2011 NECVA First Team All-Conference and All-New England last season. The team starts play on January 24th against Harvard before facing Pelletier on Springfield College on the 27th.

Also be on the look out for Coniglione, the middle blocker who is in his sophmore season on the team after playing in 20 matches last season.

The sophomore setter finished his first season with the team playing in 34 matches, tallying 104 digs and 334 assists.

The outside hitter finished his freshman season last spring with 377 kills, in addition to 25 aces and 187 digs. He was also named to the UVC Honorable Mention Team.

Freshman setter/outside hitter on the team, Pfeiffer was picked in the preseason poll to finish 5th in Conference Carolina.

Women’s College Players
Emily Gillich – Endicott – Freshman defensive specialist / outside hitter on the team and saw action in 50 sets this season as the team went 16-16 overall, 7-1 in conference
Kassandra Buseck – Nazareth – Freshman right side / outside hitter played in 25 sets this season
Maria Allocco – Nazareth – Freshman middle blocker played in 37 matches with 268 kills hitting a .306% and racking up 83 total blocks. Was named rookie of the week 4 times this season, selected as the E8 rookie of the year, and selected for the E8 second team all-conference.
Christina Pelletier – Nazareth – Juior outside hitter / defensive specialist
Leah Farrell – Nazareth – Senior outside hitter / defensive specialist finished with 141 kills and 372 digs in the 2011 season
Mary Kelly – SUNY Cortland – Freshman middle hitter and a member of the team that finished the season 42-2 after a 4-set loss in the NCAA DIII quarterfinals
Kelsey Kromer – Kutztown Univeristy- Freshman hitter played in 4 matches this season helping KU finish with 24 wins in 2011, the most since 2007, and had 13 PSAC East victories setting a school record.
Shauna Powell – Suny Delhi- Sophmore defensive specialis/ libero helped the team to the Mountain Valley Conference Tournament Championship match before falling to Adirondack CC. For the 2011 season she recorded 208 digs and 44 aces.
Rebekah Parker – Sage College – Freshman right side / middle hitter played in 34 matches finished the season with 124 kills and 21 total blocks as the team went 14-21 on the season
Serena Heard – Sage College- Freshman defensive speicalist played in 35 sets and was forth on the team for defensive stats tallying 230 digs on the season
Laura Falkowitz- College of Saint Rose – Junior defensive specialist / setter saw limited action this season as the team went 18-9 overall reaching the NE-10 Championships however in 2010 was one of 5 players to play in all 27 matches finishing third on the team with 219 digs.
Carissa Vazzana – Union College – Junior defensive specialist played in 5 matches this season as the team went 20-15 overall.
Christina Vazzana – Union College – Junior defensive speicialist played in 9 matches this season as a member of the team, and no your not seeing double it’s the Vazzana twins!
Eve Richards – Union College – Senior outside hitter was named AVCA All-New York regional All-Star player, Libery League First team, named to 7 all-tournament teams and led the Dutchmen in kills with 502, hitting percentage at .253, tallied 48 service aces, and had 77 blocks on the season.
Erin Little – Syracuse Univeristy – Senior right side/ outside hitter finished her senior season with the Orange after the team went 19-12 on the 2011 season and earned a 5th seed into the Big East tournament, the highest since 2005. She was named to the Big East Honor Roll once this season.
Kourtney Clark – La Salle University – Senior setter finished her career as the forth-highest all-time in career assists with 2,437 tallying 863 this season. She recorded five double-doubles this seazson and has also recieved numerous A-10 Commissioners Honor Roll accolades.
